My Top 4 Tips to Implement Healthy Eating and Raw Food into Everyday Life

Die besten Tipps zum Gesund Essen und Umsetzen von Rohkost im Alltag mit Familie - Rohtopia
What's your biggest challenge when it comes to holistic wellbeing and feeling good on all levels? Is it eating healthy, is it moving your body regularly, are your own thoughts holding you back, your environment, your family? The most common reply to this question is: Implementing healthy eating into everyday life - especially when people live with family members who are not interested in eating raw, vegan or vegetarian foods - or anything that looks just the slightest bit of "healthy". Personally, I've been lucky enough to almost always have supportive and even more, curious people around me. However, I also lived with someone for a while who was almost hostile towards my raw vegan creations, at a time when I was very excited about raw...

Cacao ∞ New Moon ∞ Intentions ∞ Ceremony 🌙

Have you ever done a cacao ceremony? Today I prepared ceremonial cacao * for myself, setting intentions and the mood for my coming days and weeks. ✨If this sounds enticing to you, here’s how to do it: ∞ Play your favourite meditative music, hum and sing along. ∞ Chop around 30g cacao liquor * and stir it into 1 cup of hot water. ∞ Add all other ingredients you feel pulled towards, and dissolve everything with a spoon or whisk. I used coconut milk powder, ashwaganda and coconut blossom. ∞ Be grateful to our beautiful Mother Earth during the entire process, for the ingredients finding their way to you, for all the good in your life, and your life itself. ∞ Feel this gratitude and...

My Winter Weekend Routine

Days off are for … 🎉👯‍♂️🍸🤪🛋️ … ? Back in the days when I used to do shift work, I would often work weekends as well and my days off would be all over the place. I did however notice how a wholesome routine on those days would leave me so much more recharged and the tone for my upcoming work days. Here’s a glimpse of what I did this weekend. Nothing fancy but sometimes just allowing yourself to be and doing more or less nothing is everything. Making time to sit and breathe for a bit Stretch and then go for a walk in nature Nourishing my body with home made goodies All this helps me incredibly to clear my head and feel balanced...

The Benefits of Bitter Foods + a Delicious Salad Recipe

Salad lovers – what’s your trick to a delicious combination? For me, different textures and flavours are key. Give me a bit of softness, some crunch, a dash of juicy and a spoonful of creamy with a mix of spicy and sweet, sour and even a little bitterness – which is actually good for you too, did you know? Benefits of bitter foods: ⟁ Bitter foods stimulate the digestive tract and help with food absorption ⟁ There is evidence that they work like probiotics in your gut and help fight bad microbes such as candida, fungus, bacteria and parasites. ⟁ Bitter food will also help regulate blood sugar levels and hunger, therefore reducing sugar cravings.   Some bitter foods I love: Kale, cabbage, brussels sprouts,…

How to make CBD Suppositories “Tampons”

How to make CBD Suppositories / Tampons This recipe is a lifesaver for anyone who isn’t keen on taking chemical meds, and wants direct, on the spot relief as CBD suppositories will give you local muscular relaxation and inflammation relief within around 15-20 minutes. Suppositories are little 'bullets' which can be used internally - meaning, you can either insert them vaginally or rectally (either because you have an issue there or cannot stomach CBD when using it orally). You can also use them topically,by letting them melt on a painful spot and massaging it into your skin. The reason why you wouldn't want to put drops of CBD onto a real tampon is that a tampon is supposed to absorb fluid, and hence will also...

How to make Raw Vegan Milk

How to make raw vegan milk foam
Why raw vegan milk? Ever since I first tried almond milk, the question for me is rather - why NOT? Plant-based milk is incredibly versatile, tastes sensational and is suitable for cold and warm dishes, such as creams, puddings, sauces and soups. You won’t find neither lactose nor cholesterol or traces of hormones and antibiotics in plant milk. Instead, it offers an abundance of vitamins, minerals and trace elements, including digestion-supporting enzymes, bio-available proteins and calcium. Talking of calcium - according to studies, cow milk does not actually strengthen your bones, but instead even reduces your bone density, and countries with the highest consumption of animal dairy products also sport the highest numbers of osteoporosis! Unlike animal-derived dairy products, plant milk (with the exception of...

Why Detox at all?

Why Detox at all - Juice Cleanse Green Orange Pink Smoothie Diet Week Body Reset - Raw vegan recipes - holistic wellbeing - Rohtopia
It’s been a while since I have done a juice fast longer than just a few days, so I feel it is time for one once again. Some people would say, if it is so great, why do you have to do it again? Well, you could look at it a bit like one part of your hygienic regime - just as you clean your teeth and wash your body more than once, giving your inside a break every once in a while is a good idea in my opinion. Why detox at all? Yes, of course your body has all the functions and abilities to detox itself, however you can always be supportive or make things harder for your body. Consuming less ideal foods,...

Beauty: Natural Body Scrub + Face Peeling

Beauty - Natürliches Scrub Peeling für Gesicht und Körper
You can easily prepare this recipe for a natural scrub yourself and you likely already have the ingredients at home in your pantry. A scrub gently cleanses your skin, removes old flakes that make your skin look grey, it also supports blood circulation and moisturizes. Honey has an antibacterial effect and can help with impurities, while coffee can have a skin-smoothing effect on cellulite. Bonus: if you follow the instructions step by step, you can save time and do both scrubs at once. Ingredients for the natural body exfoliator scrub: 1/2 cup oats 1/2 cup almonds 1/4 cup raw sugar or brown sugar 1/4 cup oil - jojoba, almond or coconut optional: essential oils - here is a recipe for a body scrub with mint...

Beauty: DIY Homemade Coffee Scrub

Body scrubs are so delicious! Coffee is a natural exfoliant and is known to provide antioxidants, increase blood flow and tighten your skin - when applied topically as a scrub. Add some more goodies such as moisturizing coconut oil and essential oils, and you have a body scrub that packs a punch, feels lovely and smells divine. Making your own body scrub takes just a few minutes, costs a fraction of store-bought stuff and only truly contains what you choose to put in it. Beauty: Protect skin + hair from chlorine + salt

If you swim a lot, be it in the pool or ocean, you might have experienced dry skin and brittle hair due to the chlorine and salt in the water. There are several things you can do to avoid this, here is what works best for me - if you have any other techniques that work for you, let me know as well :) How to prevent dry hair and skin despite swimming in chlorine and salt water The first thing to know is that your skin and hair absorb everything that they come in contact with. You may have noticed that your hair feels thicker when it is wet. This is due to your hair absorbing water until it is saturated and the reason for the...

How to: Clean your blender in under a minute

If you are using your blender all the time, like me - for smoothies, ice cream, soup, spreads, nut milks, bliss balls, etc - this trick will save you tons of time. The trick with making blender cleaning easy is to at least rinse the container straight after using it. Like that, whatever you were blending will not get dry and sticky. So just give it a rinse if you are in a rush and do the rest later: Add 1 drop of dishwashing liquid and 1 cup of water to the container. Blend on high for half a minute. Rinse with fresh water. The container should be nice and shiny - if there is still some residue left, clean it with a dishwashing sponge...

Better than a New Year’s resolution

Happy New Year - Photo by Kelly Sikkema via Unsplash
This time it's going to be different - is what we say every New Year's Eve, at the first of the month or beginning of the week. And then it all stays the same after all once again, maybe with a short flicker of change, but overall, same same and we are frustrated for not getting anywhere with our great plans and hopes and dreams, again. So here is what you could try instead of writing the 100th to-do list or resolution that'd probably look quite similar to the last one. Let me know how it goes :)

Home: How to unclog your sink without chemicals

Your kitchen or bathroom can be as shiny and pretty as you like, but if your sink keeps filling up because the drains are blocked, it's just gross .. Grabbing some chemical bomb from the shop is one option to try clean your drains, but if you prefer to give natural solutions a go, try this first: How to clear a sink naturally instead of pouring buckets of Draino and other chemicals down your drain into the earth ☼ YOU WILL NEED: 2 cups of vinegar (other uses) You can use pretty much any kind of vinegar except for balsamic :) white vinegar is perfect - I was using apple cider vinegar in the video simply because that was the only vinegar I had available that...

Float Tank: total relaxation for body + mind

I love being in water, especially if it is warm and clear and I can float in it. And I love being relaxed - well, who doesn't, right? (Actually, some people are addicted to drama, but that's a different story). So when I discovered flotation tanks, also known as sensory deprivation tanks, I was super intrigued and booked myself in straight away. What is a flotation tank? Flotation tanks are containers filled with warm, very salty water. So salty actually, that the water is dense enough for you to  ... you guessed it, float! To filter out any noise, the containers close - they are super easy to open again, and the inside is also equipped with some light source that you can control from the...

HiiT is the Shi.. – Why I love interval training!

My favorite exercise when I have little time is HiiT - High Intensity Interval Training.  Actually, it is my favorite way of exercise of all time. I have even done a session at waiting for boarding at an airport once!     WHY I LOVE HIIT WORKOUTS No gear: You can do it without any equipment, all you need is an interval timer which you can download onto your smart phone. Oh and water. If done right, you will be a puddle afterwards :) No time: The training is over and done with in 15-20 minutes, at that includes stretching afterwards! No BS: If you give it your all, as you always should, interval training is 3x more efficient than plain old jogging. No Skills:...

Soak + Relax: Detox-Bath

If you are amongst the lucky ones who can call a bath tub their own, then you hopefully enjoy soaking in it every now and then. Super relaxing, warming, and lets you sleep like a log afterwards.  Instead of bubble baths though, I prefer to use my own detox bath blend, with sea salt and bicarb soda. Both detox and neutralize your body, and the warmth relaxes your muscles. A detox bath can also soothe itchy skin, help clean and renew your skin, improve its' appearance and soften it (more details below the recipe).  Sometimes I also add essential oils. All in all a whole bunch of positive effects in addition to the feel good factor, and better value for money than store-bought bath salts as...

Beauty: Moisturizing mask for all skin types

Whether your skin is dehydrated from being in a cold climate, or too much time in an air-conditioned environment (offices, buses, planes, etc), or your simply want to pamper yourself with a little DIY home spa mask, avocado is your go-to ingredient. Avocados are a fantastic yet so simple way to revitalizing, nourishing and hydrating your skin. By rehydrating your skin, you also plump any fine lines that may be forming - next to sun damage and smoking, dehydration is one of the major causes for prematurely aged skin. Plus, you skip all the chemical ingredients and synthetics that store-bought beauty products usually contain. This makes your treatment less irritating for your skin, and friendlier for both your wallet and the environment. And the best part: any leftover...

Beauty: 4 Refreshing DIY Summer Mist Spray Recipes

Depending on the ingredients, facial mists can be cooling, soothing, balancing, hydrating and even mood boosting. On summer days so hot you would like to just be in a cool pool of water all day, these refreshing mists are true life savers. In airconditioned environments such as flights, they will protect your skin and prevent lines while keeping your tan alive longer. The DIY Bonus: Unlike store bought products, these sprays are inexpensive, all natural, without any chemical add-ons.

Food for thought: “What if … ?” by Bex Tyrer

As the sunsets on an island in Bahia so it can rise in Bali...What if I could let it all just be? What if I was already “good” enough? What if I had no regrets? What if I allowed the precious memories of the past to simply provide power for the present? What if I stopped planning the future? What if I were to trust fully in the divinity of all? What if I Didn’t. Worry. About. Anything. ? What if I really did make the most of every “opportunity”? What if I could give without giving myself away? What if I could receive without feelings of inadequacy? What if I could forgive myself? What if I let go of all judgments and bowed in...

Listen to your heart – here is why

What do you listen to more - your heart or your thoughts? are you a super rational person, or do you let yourself be guided by your intuition? Your heart beats 108.000 times a day - one hundred and eight thousand! With an average of 70 beats per minute, times 60 times 24 it really adds up to this incredible number, daily. For the longest time, Western medicine believed the heart to be nothing more but a muscle which pumps blood through your body, providing it with oxygen. Then studies and research discovered, that statements like "having a broken heart" or "my heart is overflowing with joy" have more to it than initially thought. 40.000 afferent neurones are located in your heart - the so-called...

How to outsmart supermarkets’ manipulations that influence your shopping choices

70% of all shopping decisions you make are not rational but emotional choices, coming from a gut feeling. Scientific studies have also shown how specific triggers affect you in grocery stores and what customary behaviour patterns you exhibit while shopping. Marketing experts and supermarket strategists obviously take advantage of that as their goal is to increase your spending. This article is about such strategies in order for you to not fall into those traps again next time you do your groceries – and how to shop smarter instead!

All Natural Soothing, Bacteria Killing, Pimple Zapping, Exfoliating Miracle Mask

In the past, I used honey for my face if I got a pimple here or there. It was truly an exceptional solution and never failed me. Obviously since going vegan, I am not eating or using honey. And on top of that, my skin is worse than it has been in MANY years. (I’m pregnant, and thankfully other than my skin I am in TIP TOP health and still full of energy!) As a health educator, I simply can’t allow blotchy skin. I like to look my best, naturally, so that no one can possibly have any doubts about what I am sharing with them regarding health. But I have been unable to find anything on the market to help (externally). Of course I...

Why sprouting is good for you and how to sprout seeds at home

So you have seen sprouts in your local supermarket, you have eaten them in your deli sandwich - but have you ever sprouted seeds yourself?  Most likely, you actually have! You might have soaked almonds, flax or chia seeds before - which is exactly the first step of sprouting! There are many more seeds that can be sprouted though and it is very easy and inexpensive to do. Give it a go!  WHY SPROUT? Sprouting is an inexpensive way to add freshness and nutrients to your foods even in the deepest of winter. Did you know that sprouts apparently contain the highest amount of vitamins, minerals and enzymes of any food per unit of calorie? It is not that surprising if you think about it....

How to: make natural bug spray and mosquito repellant & what helps with itchy insect bites

HOW TO MAKE NATURAL BUG SPRAY AND MOSQUITO REPELLANT & WHAT HELPS WITH ITCHY INSECT BITES
YIPPIIIIIIEH!!! Winter is gone - at least according to the calendar - Spring is here! Longer days, more sunshine, temperatures rising, flowers blooming and.. insects buzzing! Sure, I will always let bees do their job - but mosquitos (family: culicidae) and bugs are likely to turn me into a serial killer! My blood must be the sweetest nectar for these little creatures - if you are with me, chances you get bitten go down to zero - while there is a blood fest happening over on my skin. Therefore, the research for natural insect repellants and mosquito sprays is 100% in my own interest :) The first part is about bugs in general, the second part goes a bit into detail about one special friend. NATURAL...

8 Life hacks for an eco friendly lifestyle

For these tricks you do not need to be a crusty old-school hippie - give them a go! You most likely have all ingredients at home already :)   1. Use lemon as chemical-free deodorant. The citric acid kills odor-causing bacteria. Do not use on freshly shaved skin. It'll burn. Better make your own in that case. 2. Make non-toxic insecticide. Mix vegetable oil, (eco) dish soap such as Dr. Bronner, and water. Shake and spray your plants. 3. Say goodbye to Drano! Unclog drains by pouring in baking soda, vinegar and hot water. 4. Disinfect cuts with raw honey. It has antiseptic and antibiotic properties, creates a breathable barrier like skin, and helps wounds heal faster. 5. Replace cheese and butter with nutritional yeast. It's packed...

Why juice instead of blending?

When it comes to the question of juicing vs blending, there are two parties – some are strictly for fresh juices and call smoothies fads, others love nothing more than a creamy smoothie and think little of juicing.
For many, the only difference between smoothies and juices is that a smoothie is creamy and a juice is a thin liquid, but whether there are any advantages or disadvantages in juices or smoothies often seems to be unclear.

How to make your spring clean eco-friendly: Green cleaning tips

HOW TO: Reduce – Reuse – Recycle Step One – Reduce: Go through your fridge & pantry for expired foods, every shelf and every drawer and look for things that you are never using, that are broken, that you just keep because your Great Grand Aunt gave them to you – and then put everything in a big box. Step One-and-a-bit: reduce your mail – set up electronic bank statements, sign up for paperless billings & payments, opt out from receiving catalogues or phone books and save some trees while de-cluttering your post box. Step Two – Reuse: If the item still is intact, there might be someone else who would like it. Donate things that are still ok. Step Three – Recycle the rest. Take old…

Silke Rosenbusch: actress, future MD and Maker of RoheLust

Theater and TV actress Silke Rosenbusch from Cologne has a lot of talents and tons of energy, but she is primarily a walking encyclopedia on the subject of raw food and health so I am very pleased that I was able to win her for an interview. Her interest in raw foods drove her to read countless books about the topic; and made her start a fascinating experiment about which she blogged on RoheLust (RawLust), in an entertaining and above all very honest way from 2009 to 2012 - daily! In the past year she also completed her secondary school in evening classes - with honors - not to rest on her laurels though, but to commence medical studies! Nevertheless, she still has time for workshops where you...

Juicefeasting: How to do a juice feast cleanse

If you're stuck with one or more health issues, like I used to be ..   .... and you do not know how to solve them, like me ..    ..then this idea may be just the nutritional answer for you :) JUICE FASTING .. or, rather, JUICE FEASTING (previously: what is a juice feast my personal experience ) PLANT BASED MEDICINE Plant-based medicine is the key to improve and often heal many diseases: diabetes (leafy green vegetables), obesity, cancer (broccoli, berries) osteoporosis, heart disease, kidney and liver issues, depression, urinary tract infections (cranberries), skin problems, bad breath and body odor, Alzheimer's, eye health (goji berries, chili, mango), longevity and too many others to name them all. Juice Feasting: My personal experience!

This is what I used to look like, every other week, for several years: I was on cortisone steroid medication to suppress these skin rashes for which conventional doctors had no explanation.   Then I discovered juice feasting (read more about what that is in my previous post) and lived on fresh juice for 35 days. Here is what happened:   JUICE FEASTING - MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE Juice Feasting is the most enjoyable and beneficial diet I've ever done. On it, I eliminated the chronic skin rashes and allergies that plagued me on and off for years, and ever since I have not had a single breakout of skin rash. I’m not always 100% raw and perfectly healthy, but the juice feast cleaned out all the pharmaceuticals and...

Juice feasting! What is it & why do it? With “Before” Photos!

If you’re stuck with one or more health issues, like I was .. .. and you don’t know how to solve them, like me .. .. then this idea may be just the nutritional answer for you – but first, some clues on what it is  🙂 It’s not a product you can buy. No company makes it. It is not a supplement. It is actually impossible to manufacture on a grand scheme in some factory because its shelf life is around one day.  You make it in your own kitchen, yourself, with simple ingredients which you can get in any supermarket or grocery store. Its benefits have been proven in thousands of scientific health studies.  It’s based entirely on natural medicine and contains absolutely nothing man-made. It’s…
